Now you have the chance to work with everything that grows in the parish's cemeteries – our shared cultural heritage and important places for grief, recovery, and exciting meetings between people.

As a gardener with us, you will help take care of our green cultural heritage and see how the park-like environments of the cemeteries change over the seasons. A fantastic job for those who enjoy working outdoors and love gardening.

Winter is dedicated to administration, planning, updating digital maps, working with tree care plans, archiving, and other tasks that there isn't always time for during the summer months. During winter, there is also room to plan training initiatives, deepen knowledge, and prepare for the common start-up before spring.

When spring arrives, the work moves outside, and together with the other staff at the cemeteries, you will be responsible for the establishment, planting, and maintenance of burial sites and green areas at the parish's churches and community centers. You will be involved from idea to establishment and work closely with both experienced colleagues and seasonal staff.

You will have all six of the parish's cemeteries as your work area along with other green spaces, and you can expect to frequently change work locations during the weeks. Even though your work is primarily within the burial operations, you are part of a cohesive team that also works with the church's parish activities.

Versatile with green fingers

We are looking for someone with gardening education or equivalent knowledge acquired through work experience from, for example, a cemetery or park. You have good plant knowledge, especially regarding trees, planting, and pruning. You also have strong skills in designing public environments and an interest in sustainability and biodiversity. You must have a driver's license with at least a B category, as well as good knowledge of using digital tools such as mapping programs and Microsoft Office. It is an advantage if you have experience with machinery and qualifications regarding the machinery used in park work.

You are committed, meticulous, and have the ability to work well both independently and in a team. It is also important that you are positive and can handle stress well. Since we meet people in both joy and sorrow at the cemeteries, it is important that you have a simultaneously professional and humble approach.

Bygdeå parish and Robertsfors municipality are located between Umeå and Skellefteå in the Diocese of Luleå. The parish has around 6,700 inhabitants (of which 67 percent belong to the Church of Sweden) and includes three larger towns but also a vibrant countryside with many villages, a long and beautiful coastline, and plenty of summer residences. Bygdeå parish has four churches and about twenty year-round employees.
